“Jazz and the French connection”, a music workshop, was conducted by Jazz pianist Madhavchari, at Alliance Francaise of Madras, Nungambakkam, on Nov.11.
This workshop was meant for general music lovers and musicians, who wanted to know more about jazz music.
Mr. Madhavchari llustrated the nature of jazz improvisation using a recognizable familiar tune. This was followed by a brief overview of the French connections to jazz music. He provided a bird’s eye view of jazz music, starting from the birth of jazz music in New Orleans to the support and encouragement by the Black American musicians in Paris and the current jazz scene in Paris and France’s contributions to jazz music.
This was followed by a further exploration of “bebop” and contemporary jazz music. This workshop was concluded with a question and answer session with the audience.
