Traffic Signals To Function For More Time
The City Police have extended the functional timings of all automatic traffic signals on the major roads in Greater Chennai by an hour each in the morning and the night.
In a statement, Police Commissioner Ms. Letika Saran said signal timings had been extended after realizing that a co-ordinated regulation was required early in the morning and late in the night owing to changes in the traffic pattern.
The timings have also been programmed in such a way that motorists’ waiting time at the signals during lean hours will be less now. Random vehicle checks will be conducted at all such signal points during lean hours and action taken against those jumping the signals.
The compounding fee for signal jumping, if done in a dangerous manner, will be over Rs.1, 000. Motorists should not jump signals, she said and asked them to co-operate with the traffic police to serve them better.
