105, And Still Going Strong
|
Queenie Reeves, an Anglo-Indian lady, is 105 years old and still going strong. Considered the oldest woman in the city, she is a resident of the Little Sisters of the Poor, an old age home located on Harrington Road, Chetpet. |
According to Sister Maria Alphonsa, Queenie and her husband, who was a railway driver, came to stay at the home in 1991. After Mr. Reeves passed away in 2000, Queenie continues to live there under the loving care of the nuns who run the home.
The home for the aged at the Little Sisters of the Poor takes good care of the elders by providing security, food, clothing and medical care. A qualified physician attends the inmates and several specialists give honorary service. The home also has a physiotherapy unit and an occupational therapy department.
Since 1934, when the home began in Chennai, the people of the city have generously helped the sisters to meet the financial burden of caring for the elderly poor people.
Little Sisters of the Poor, home for the aged, is located at No.6, Harrington Road, Chetpet, Chennai-31. For details, contact: 28362963, 28362824.
