Project Director Dr.K. Palanichamy
Dr. K. Palanichamy, a proud resident of Anna Nagar West Extension is a retired registrar of Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Council. He was born on 15.6.1942 in Periyakulam, Theni district. He studied at Victoria Memorial Hr. Secondary School in Periyakulam. Though his initial aim was to become an I A S officer, he eventually went on to study medicine at the Govt. Siddha Medical College at Palaymkottai. He first worked in a panchayat union dispensary as a medical officer. From there, he has reached remarkable heights in his career.
He has worked mainly on research work related to ancient cure of Siddha. He was selected by the Tamil Nadu state government to work as the asst. medical officer in the government hospital, Tambaram and later transferred to Aringar Anna Govt. Hospital of Indian Medicine. He was selected by Union Public Service Commission as a research officer in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to take care of Siddha related work throughout India. His work involved the collection of manuscripts. He was promoted as a medical officer and supervised the manufacture of drugs.
He was transferred to Erode as a medical officer. There he conducted treatment and awareness camps in the villages 5 days a week barring his regular schedule. Besides this, he conducted various seminars, wrote articles, made exhibits and gave radio talks. He was transferred to Trichy as district medical officer. His works were same as his works at Erode. He was later posted back to Chennai and held the post of Registrar, Tamilnadu Siddha Council before retiring in June 2000.
He was appointed as deputy director, Tamilnadu AIDS Control Society under NACO. He is presently working as project director for HIV/AIDS intervention programme. He is also in-charge officer for STD (Specially transmitted diseases) in the state and has conducted two state conferences.
Here is a man with a will to do good for the society. From a small panchayat dispensary, he has come a long way giving us inspiration. He also provides free health drinks to the people of the park to which he goes every morning. This is another instance of the man’s promotion of goodwill.
