Showcasing Dance, Music And Theatre
The Parks New Festival was hosted by Prakriti Foundation for the first time in 2007. A five day festival held in the first week of December in Chennai, showcases new and emerging work in the field of dance, music and theatre for Chennai audience. In 2007, we had curated work by leading performers like Dr. Mallika Sarabhai, play by the Vayu Naidu company U.K, a solo performance by Preethi Athreya, Dance performance by Dance Routes Bhubaneshwar showcasing the Raghurajpur Lila Project by Dr. Rekha Tandon, Play ‘Jazz’ reminiscing on the blue and Jazz players/singers in the 50 & 60’s of Bollywood by Ramu Ramanathan. This year there is an entirely new package for the discerning Chennai audience.
The Park New Festival Edition II schedule is as follows, On the 2nd Dec’08 ABOUT RAM: Anurupa Roy - Museum Theatre About Ram is based on Balinese Ramayan - the Uttararamacharita by Bhavabhuti. The play uses animation, puppet and live actors with audio visual effect, on the, 3rd Dec’08 PUSHED: Padmini Chettur - Kalakshetra.
A modern dance choreography of six dancers interpreting anger, pain, pleasure, happiness, sorrow and love, on the, 4th Dec’08, BUDDHACHARITRAM: Probal Gupta Museum Theatre, An experimental Kathakali rendering on the life of Lord Buddha on the ,5th Dec’08,ON SEEING: Zuleikha Allana - Lalit Kala Academy.
An installation art mapping the landscape of memory, through light installations as well as the physicality of the performer, where the performer is negotiated to become an extension of the visual language of that space on the,6th Dec’08, 60 SECONDS DEEP by Jaimini Pathak Museum Theatre.
A play of wit, fun and modern life - the story of 4 standard sized lives and 4 larger than life dreams and between the,2nd to 6th Dec ‘08 a Spirit of the City by Pascal Monteil Park Hotel -: Exhibition of portraits of musicians, dancers and other cultural personalities from Chennai and India by French photographer Pascal Monteil would be held.
