Apparao Galleries, No-7, Wallace Gardens 3rd Street, Nungambakkam presents Timeless Solitude which is an photograph exhibition by Ramya Reddy. A Light & Life Academy alumnus, Ramya also studied at Santa Fe workshops under renowned artist John Paul Caponigro who she considers her mentor. Her work encompasses fine art imagery, travel, photography that captures the spirit of land, life and photo illustrations. Her photos display true manifestations of the state of solitude that happens when in tune with the elements and nature and the cyclic nature of this whole process.

Delphi- TVS Sets A Carnatic Music Trend At Mannur, Near Sriperumbudur

delphi-tvs-01Delphi-TVS Diesel Systems Ltd, sets a trend as young and upcomoning musicians make a beeline to Mannur, near Sriperumbudur. Delphi -TVS situated at Mannur, organized an event to make available Carnatic Music to the residents of Sriperumbudur, Thiruvallore and nearby places. Sri Balavinayagar Temple, within the factory, was the venue for their Navarathri festivities. The eight day programme was held from 19th Sep to 26th Sep 2009.
In addition to Music programmes, Katha kaalatchebam programme by Ms. Deepika Rajagopalan, a prodigy was the highlight of the event. The employees’ families and their neighbours in Sriperumbudur, Thiruvallore etc attend in large numbers.
These Navarathiri Festivities are initiated by Dr.S.Venkataraman, Vice President – HR Delphi-TVS, was well attended and supported by Employees Union, Employees and Employees’ Families. This was a good opportunity made available for many to appreciate Carnatic music and develop an interest to put their wards into learning it.The event was a novel idea to integrate traditional cultural values in today’s competitive world, that too, in a factory premises

Bus service required from Valasarawakkam to Tambaram

The Alwarthirunagar residents and Valasarawakkam area residents are finding it very hard to reach Tambaram.They told the Chennai Plus reporter that there is no direct MTC bus service from Valasarwalkkam , Virugambakkam via Porur to Tambaram.

The residents further stated that if the MTC authorities make necessary arrangements to introduce new routs or extend the existing route numbers G70 and 18M from Vadapalani Bus Terminus will be very useful for the public

2 Tonnes Of Litter Cleaned Up From Beaches

The International Coastal Cleanup day was coordinated by TREE Foundation in the coastal fishing villages of Pallavakam, Kottivakam, Injambakkam, Pannaiyur, Kannathur Reddy Kuppam, Karikattukuppam, Kalpakkam and Mudaliar Kuppam and Perunthuravu. The 44 fishing villages from Pallavakam to Marakanam participated in the coastal cleanup.

Dr Supraja Dharini, Chairperson TREE Foundation said 412 children, 223 youth, and 32 adults of the above fishing villages and volunteers of TREE Roots & Shoots India cleaned about 2 tonnes of litter. It was approximately 4,48,421 pieces of litter (Plastic covers, food wrappers, bottles, pan covers, rope, slippers, thermacole, waste fishing net, cigarette butts etc,)on the beaches. By their act they made the older members of the villages understand the problem of marine littering and the crisis the ocean faces right now”.
The chief guest for the villages where the A.D. Fisheries Mr Kathavarayan and the Inspector of Police , Neelangarai Police Station Mr Sankaralingam.
The Indian Coast Guard , Loyola College and TREE Foundation was supported by the Department of Fisheries and the Collectorate of Kancheepuram to spread the need for awareness on marine litter and ghost fishing to the fisher folk and enable them to also take responsibility to keep their surroundings clean and prevent sewage, plastic and pollution from reaching the ocean. Train Coaches Augmented

According to Southern Railway official sources from 21st September 2009 three Suburban train coaches operating along the Tambaram - Beach section was augmented to 12 car coaches in addition to the existing 12 train coaches.
Because of this augmentation, the number of 12 car trains has increased from 158 services from 122 services

Car Rally To Promote Road Safety

Annamalai University Engineers Alumni organized a Treasure Hunt 2009 Car Rally on 20th September 2009. The car rally was flagged off from North Parade Road, St.Thomas Mount, near Kathipara Flyover.
According to Vijay Kumar, Rally Convener the rally was held with the aim to promote road safety awareness. About 30 cars participated in the event.

Chennai’s talented self taught artist

D.Dhasan is a talented Chennai based self taught artist. He is a resident of West Mambalam. D.Dhasan told the Chennai Plus reporter that after completing his school education he took up painting as his profession since he is very interested in arts and paintings from his young age. D.Dhasan is at present holding an exhibition of his paintings titled The Lilly Pond Series at Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Egmore,Chennai-8. At the exhibition D.Dhasan has displayed paintings done in two mediums namely oil on canvas and acrylic on canvas. D.Dhasan told Chennai Plus reporter that out of the 25 paintings displayed for public view four paintings are done by his daughter D.Madhumeitha .According to artist D.Dhasan the viewers appreciating his art works is his greatest Award for him. He has participated in a number of group exhibitions all over India and is planning to participate in International shows. D.Dhasan also runs his own art studio.

He told Chennai Plus that he admires the art work of all artists because according to him every artist has got his own unique painting style and concepts. The art exhibition of D.Dhasan at Hotel Ambassador Pallava showcases colourful paintings of Lilly ponds and a few paintings on village life showing open spaces with cattle, paddy fields, women washing their clothes by the river side, a woman returning home to her village after buying vegetables from the market etc. Artist D.Dhasan further told Chennai Plus reporter that he has painted these pictures because these scenes are slowly disappearing as the villages are getting modernized and developed. The paintings done by D.Dhasan and his daughter D.Madhumeitha is on display at La Galerie D’ Expressions, Hotel Ambassador Pallava, N0-30, Montieth Road, Egmore. Vocational Training Center for poor women

It was a great day for the family of Surabi Trust when a Vocational center (Tailoring Unit) was opened at Poondi a village near Thiruvallur on Saturday 12th September 2009. The Rotary Club of Chennai Towers has provided the Technical support in establishing the Vocational Tailoring Unit. The center provides 3 months skill training in cutting & sewing (Tailoring) and equips the poor women to earn independently and to work in Export units. The centre covers 8 to 10 villages near by Poondi and Surabi Trust hopes and plans to turn out around 30 women in being trained in 16 types of stitch wears. Members from Rotary club of Chennai Towers and members from Surabi Trust have participated in the function Mr.Justin a student of CSIM- Chennai will coordinate for the smooth functioning of this Unit. Another Tailoring Unit of Surabi Trust which is run with the support of AUM Education Seva Trust sponsored by The Rotary Club of Madras Silver Beach conducted 2nd Convocation as 32 women were trained and they successfully passed their prescribed examination . All of them were issued certificates on 13th September Sunday at Veppampattu Tailoring Unit. Mrs.Muthulakshmi who works as a helper in masonry work is been trained and interested to start work as full time Tailor from her home. She needs a Tailoring machine and Surabi has promised to support her. Those who are interested to request you to kindly sponsor a tailoring machine for her are welcome.
