Asia Provides Strong Growth For Australian Tourism
Asia provided strong growth for Australian tourism during 2005, according to international visitor arrivals data¹ released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics this week.
The data shows strong growth in visitor arrivals for the year ending December 2005 from major Asian tourism markets including India (increase of 22 percent), Korea (increase of 18 percent), Hong Kong (increase of 16 percent), China (increase of 13 percent), Taiwan (increase of 12 percent) and Singapore (increase of six percent).
Tourism Australia’s Regional General Manager Asia, Greig Mc Allan, said the results demonstrated the importance of the Asian region for the sustainable growth of Australian tourism.
“The visitor arrival results for 2005 are encouraging and confirm that Asia is the engine room for Australia’s tourism growth, with more than one-quarter of Australia’s international visitors coming from the eight Asian markets where we focus our efforts,” Mr Mc Allan said.
“The strong results for India, China and Korea demonstrate the rate at which these developing markets are continuing to grow.
