Peak Hour Problem

traffic12.jpgAt About 5.00 a car right behind her knocked down p.m on 20.03.06 at the junction of 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue, a girl while waiting for the green signal on her two-wheeler.

The passers by, helped the girl and temporarily mended the two-wheeler, which was damaged due to the knock during this peak hour, and at a junction like this, there was no traffic police to control the traffic. The place of accident referred to is just near the Aminjikarai Police Station.

E.B’s Post Replacement

dsc03693.JPGChennai Plus published a detailed report about an unstable electric post in 9th Street, Anna Nagar Western extension. People were scared of electrocution if the post falls. However the Electricity Board has removed the post and fixed a box instead, which is more safer to the public, as the fuses and the heavy duty wires are inside the box and but not as they were exposed earlier.

Electricity Board should see that the doors of the box are well secured so that it would not pose any danger to people passes by the box, and children play about the area. However, Chennai Plus thanks Electricity Board for action taken to replace the unstable post.

Gender Justice Forum

The inaugural speech was given by, Mrs. Shantha Kumari RDS Chengalpattu gave Mrs. Lalitha advocate, explanatory speech, and Mrs. Valli Gopal SIGA Chennai was the chief guest of the occasion.

Sri Karuppan retired IAS, Mrs.Sivakami IAS, Chennai, Sri M.L. Das Chennai, Mrs. Arulmozhi, advocate, Mrs. Ajitha, advocate of High Court all spoke about Women’s rights and welfare of children and graced the occasion.

Bestowable Lady

mrs-ramani.jpgMrs. Ramani Nandhakumar is the Headmistress of Bala Vihar, a school for the mentally retarded children, run by the Guild of Services, at No.10, Halls Road, Kilpauk, Chennai - 600 010.

She only had taken the mentally retarded girl Lakshmi when she went to participate in Vijay T.V.’s ‘Vasool Rani’ programme along with three other heads of such homes.

She has won the Title ‘Vasool Rani’ and prizes, a refrigerator, vaccum cleaner, DVD player, Air conditioner and a Saree. She had so kindly donated all these prizes to Bala Vihar. Mrs. Ramani Nandhakumar hails from Karnataka.

She has obtained M.Phil. Degree from Madurai Kamaraj University. She has dedicated her life to serve the mentally retarded children, which she says, is very interesting and the service gives her self-satisfaction.

In 1997, she was made the Head of the Institution; there are 85 residential children and 100-day scholars. There are 15 teaching staff, one
Physiotherapist, two Occupational Therapists, One Speech Therapist and One Yoga Therapist. Mrs. Ramani Nandhakumar says that she wishes to work till she is able to. She has completed 25 years of service with Bala Vihar. May the Almighty bless her to serve these children as she wishes?

Beating The Heat

water.jpgThe summer heat is intensified earlier this year, than what it had to be. Though there are shady trees on both sides of road in 17th street in Anna Nagar Western Extension.

The heat is still unbearable.

The SBOA School has kindly arranged to splash water through hose pipes in the 17th street Main Roads to keep the area cool, taking into consideration the school children.

By splashing water, the school is keeping the area little cool.

Others too can follow what SBOA School is doing. To keep the surrounding cool, they can splash water around their premises, which will enable the heat to subside to a certain extent.

Multi Hued- Jeeva

jeeva.jpgJeeva, son of film producer Mr. R.B. Choudry of Super Good films aged 21 years, and a visual Communication Graduate. We met him at Shanthi colony, Anna Nagar, during the break of the shooting of film “Pori”. Pooja as the heroine. When we interviewed he was very casual and simple.

He has ample potential to be another promising star, when we asked about his hobbies, he said that he likes to play cricket, plays Billiards and Video games during his leisure time and fun loving youngster.

His first picture was ‘Aasai Aasiyai’ then ‘Thiththikuthey’, ‘Ram’, ‘Dishyum’. The last two films had established his place in the industry.
His forthcoming movie is ‘Ee’ with Nayanthara as his pair and has been booked for 3 more movies.

The “Chennai Plus” wishes the young and talented star a successful and a bright future.

Joyous Reunion

Lakshmi from Pallavaram went missing in the year 2003. A hectic search by the parents and complaints to all police stations in the State, through Pallavaram police station, proved futile, and the girl could not be traced.
Recently the parents of the girl were watching Vijay TV “Vasool Rani” programme and the parents spotted the girl among the audience.
Subsequently, the parents contacted Vijay TV, The staff of Vijay T.V. was kind enough to locate the whereabouts of the girl and she was with ‘Bala Vihar’ an organisation run by the Guild of Service in our neighbourhood, Kilpauk.

Authorities of Vijay TV “Bala vihar” made prompt arrangements to hand over the girl to her parents.

The Chennai Plus” thanks the BalaVihar, Media and Vijay TV Staff who were responsible for this happy reunion.
