Minister Speaks At Eunuchs’ Meet
The Tamil Nadu Eunuchs Association held its weeklong “we are also for a good society” celebrations at V.H.S. Hospital, Taramani, by planting saplings and volunteering for eye donations. The eunuchs also cared for children admitted in hospital.
The celebrations concluded at ‘Kalaivanar Arangam’ on Jan. 24. Minister for Social Welfare Dr.Poongothai released a documentary film produced by the eunuchs. She said she was concerned about the money and time spent on HIV and would tender any service to society in the matter.
Ms. Supriya Sahu of ‘Donsachs’ said eunuchs should improve on their talents. There were about one million eunuchs in India. They should also be eligible for passports and ration cards and provided with suitable job opportunities for which law should be amended accordingly.
The function was presided over by Mr. V.K.Suburaj, secretary of health and welfare. Dr.R.Lakshmi Bhai spoke on behalf of the eunuchs. Dr.A.Vijayaraghavan welcomed the gathering.
A school student Radhika from Velore said that the eunuchs are her sisters that she would also donate her eyes.
