Asian Olympic Boxing Tournament

In the Bantam Weight Category (54 kgs), the Indian Commonwealth Games gold medalist Akhil Kumar defeated the Olympic silver medalist Worapoj Petchkoom of Thailand in the 2nd Asian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournament at Bangkok. The whole stadium gave him a standing ovation for his outstanding performance. This victory is all the more credible because Akhil did not participate in the first Olympic Qualifying Tournament at Chicago in October 2007 due to a wrist injury. The Indian Boxers returned from Bangkok on 3rd February.
