Awarded For Outstanding Services To Society
Mr Adrian Vassou, a resident of Ayanavaram, is interested in helping the poor people and is actively involved in many charitable works. Adrian was awarded the prestigious Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award in 2004 on the 8th March 2004 for his outstanding service, achievement and contribution to society. Adrian told the Chennai Plus reporter that he is a native of Arakkonam. His father Mr Harry (Late) was a Railway Police Inspector and his mother Averil is a housewife. Adrian has seven brothers and six sisters. He came to Ayanavaram with his family when he was 5 years old. Adrian did his school education at the Perambur Railway School. Adrian told Chennai Plus that after his school education he joined the hotel industry. He worked for Chennai’s best top hotels for about 6 years. Later Adrian worked on various cruise ships in USA for 12 years.
Adrian, a parishioner of Don Bosco Shrine, Ayanavaram is an active salesman co-operator for many years. He is also the administrator at the province level. Adrian told Chennai Plus reporter, his role model is Fr Gerard. “ He is a good father and great inspiration for me”, said Adrian.
Adrian was involved in many humanitarian services. He told Chennai Plus reporter that he is the first Anglo Indian to receive the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award. Adrian regularly organizes free grand lunch programmes on every New Year’s day for the poor people and he also distributes free rations. Adrian’s efforts in getting people together for adoration, praise and worship, divine mercy novena, reflections and holy eucharist, hasn’t gone unnoticed. He animates the divine mercy Novena prayer with his music ministry every Saturday afternoon at 2.30 pm in the Don Bosco Church, Ayanavaram. Adrian’s service to uplift the needy and poor people of Chennai city has earned him the recognition of being a great humanitarian.
Adrian’s wife works for a reputed Life Insurance Company based at Adyar. He has one son. Adrian told Chennai Plus that he thanks his wife Yolanda, family members, well wishers and friends for all their support and help. Adrian’s future aim is to build a home for the aged and orphan children. Those who are interested in supporting and helping him in all the social service activities are welcome.
