A Helpful And Public Service Minded Person
Mr Thankachan Inchakadu Kottarakara, the founder and trustee of AIT Senior Citizens Home based at Maduravoyal, Chennai – 95 is a helpful and service minded person. He is a native of Kerala. He came to Chennai in the year 1964. Mr Thankachan told the Chennai Plus reporter that he is interested in helping the poor people. He said that he takes the responsibility to bury the unclaimed dead bodies with police permission. He also provides free medical assistance to the needy and downtrodden people.
Mr Thankachan worked hard and did his best to eliminate the practice of handrickshaw in the state of West Bengal, Calcutta. He wrote to the National Human Right Commission, New Delhi, objecting handrickshaw stating that it is a violation of human rights. He further gave valuable suggestion to introduce cycle rickshaw. Later he was informed from the West Bengal State Legal Aid and Advisory Board that necessary action will be taken. Mr Thankachan received the information that a law was passed in 1996, not to allow handrickshaw in West Bengal state.
It is reported that based upon the suggestion and views made by Mr Thankachan to the Tamilnadu Government, many national highway roads were widened for smooth traffic movement. In the year 2002, Mr Thankachan, sent a picture message based on the concept “Equality of Religions” to the Government of India, New Delhi. He got reply stating his thinking is very good.
During the year 2004, when he saw a television programme showing a poor family having no money to give their family member a decent burial. He felt sad. Mr Thankachan wrote to the Kerala Chief Minister Oomenchandy and to the High Court Chief Justice Subash Reddy to take action to set up a common burial ground for the poor people in every place of the country.
Mr Thankachan told Chennai Plus that he has conducted a number of useful public awareness programmes, such as rain water harvesting, linking of all rivers in India. His message to the people is to pray to God, to make planet earth a place of peace, joy and happiness. Mr Thankachan’s aim in life is to continue to do more help to the poor and needy. He started the AIT Senior Home in Maduravoyal to help and take good care of the senior citizens. His future aim is to build more charity home and to establish an educational institution for the handicapped children.
