The All India Anglo-Indian Association, St. Thomas Mount Branch (Mrs. Dawn Wilson, President and her team) presented a “Young Talent” Singing Competition for youngsters aged between 5 to 21 years. The event took place on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at St. Peter’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School, 18, G.S.T. Road, St. Thomas Mount, Chennai-16.
Being the first of its kind amongst the Chennai branches, this contest was open to all Anglo-Indian children. This event showcased the talent of the young budding Anglo-Indian children who did an excellent performance on stage.
This Competition drew children from Ayanavaram, Adyar, GeorgeTown, Madhavaram, Perambur, Vepery and from St. Thomas Mount as well. The even was categorized under different age groups in 4 Categories. Simone Peters (compere of the show) did a fine job in introducing the young singers and successfully conducting the show.
Damien Martin in charge of music and sound backed up the children who in turn were all geared up and gave their best shot. The judges have a tough time to declare the winners. The Special guest for the event was Mr. Hugh Wilkins, Governing Body Member.
Dr. Oscar C. Nigli, Governing Body Member and Ex MLA distributed the prizes to the winners. The audience was enthralled by the splendid guest artiste performance by Nadine Carron as well as the dance troupes from Vepery and St. Thomas Mount.In category A ( 5 to 8 years/ Solo singing) the first place went to Shannon Gomes.
In category B ( 9 to 12 years/ Solo singing) Chelsea Persiche got the first prize. In category C ( 13 to 16 years/ Solo singing the first place went to Britney Dubier.In the group singing event, Sylveser Ellens, Natasha Deloratta, Nathan Ellens, Erica Jacobs and Rydge Deloratta representing the Perambur Branch got the first place. In category D ( 17 to 21 years/ solo singing) Amanda Doggett got the first place. In the group Sanchez Romeo, Nikita Correya, Dwayne Xavier and Joshua Chobe. It was an evening of good singing and great music.
