First Indian Recipient Awarded 8th Dan By WUKO

Shihan.S.Kothandan is a renowned Senior Karate Exponent. He has brought great name and fame to India in reference to Karate. The World Union Karate-do Organisations - 2010 has conferred the prestigious status of 8th Dan to Shihan S. Kothandan from TamilNadu. He is the first ever recipient of the same from the sub-continent makes India feel proud. It is a moment of pride that Shihan.S.Kothandan from TamilNadu is the first ever Indian to achieve this distinguished status.
Because of his experience in Administration, WUKO appointed him as Asia Chairman.

During 2008 he attended Referee Seminar conducted by the WUKO in Italy. Now he is one of the World Chief Referee in WUKO. The first medal for the first time in 37 years for India was won by Shihan S. Kothandan in the World Karate Championships held in Torrent-Valancia-Spain between 20th & 24th of June, 2007 in the Male Veterans B-category of 46 years and above. He achieved yet another distinction by taking India to the 25th position in the World Medal ranking – 2007.In the year 2002, he published a Book in both Tamil & English titled “ A Complete Book on Karate Competition.
He is the first Karate Master who participated the World Tournaments - WKF-Germany-2000 and WUKO Spain 2007. He is the First Karate exponent to be appreciated by Three successive Chief Ministers of TamilNadu for his outstanding achievements & hardwork in the field of Karate. 1980 - Dr. M.G. Sakti Burman is a contemporary Indian artist of Indian parentage living in France. He grew up in what is now Bangladesh. He has lived in France for the last five decades, while maintaining strong ties with India, where he regularly exhibits his work.
His extended family includes several eminent artists: His daughter, Maya Burman also lives and works in France.He has had several exhibitions of his work in India, and elsewhere, and won several prizes. A painter and lithographer, Burman’s art has mythic and fantasy content and rich colorswash. Sakti Burman graduated from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata in 1956.
He studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. His works have been exhibited at the Grand Palais, Paris (1975, 1994) and the French Biennales of 1963, 1965 and 1967. His works have been shown in museums in France including the Musee de Blois, the Musee de Villeneuve-sur-Lot, the Musee Denon and the Chalon-sur-Rhone. Sakti Burman lives and works in Paris.

Adam Sinclair works as the Manager for Indian Overseas Bank, Nehru Park Branch, Poonamallee High Road. Adam is an excellent and talented hockey player. He has a long list of achievements in Hockey and athletics. Adam hails from Coimbatore. Adam Sinclair, as the member of Indian national hockey team, participated at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens. He made his international debut in the year 2004, during a Four Nation Tournament in Gifu (Japan).
He did his school education at Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. At Stanes School, Adam was the most estimable in Field Hockey. He was the captain of his own school team. the school won many tournaments under his captaincy. For the year of 2001, he was elected School Pupil Leader. Adam did his further studied in PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore. Many accolades and medals were owned by Sinclair as an athlete in the triple jump and long distance running events.
He told Chennai Plus that he had represented India in Athens Olympics in 2004 and also represented India in the Champions Trophy in 2004 in Pakistan. Adam played for India in the Champions Trophy in 2005 in Chennai. He had represented India for the Pakistan Test Series 2004 and 2006, and for the Spain test Series in 2004 in India (winners). Adam had represented India in the 4 Nation Tournament in Japan 2004 and won the Silver medal and for the 4 Nation Tournament in Düsseldorf, Germany and won the Silver medal. Adam represented India in the Indo- French Test Series in 2004, in the Junior Asia Cup 2004 in Pakistan (winners), in the 8 Nation Challengers Trophy in Poland 2004 (winners) and for the Indo- Ireland Test Series 4 matches in 2004 Germany (Winners). He represented India in the Junior World Cup, Rotterdam 2005- 4th place, in the 6 Nation Tournament, Malaysia 2005 – 3rd place. Adam also represented India in the 4 Nation Tournament in Bilbao, Spain 2005 (winners). Adam said that he had represented Chennai Veerans in the Premier Hockey League and secured the second place. Also held the post of Captain for the same. He further stated that he had represented Tamil Nadu in the Junior Nationals held at Raipur and secured the third place. Adam was selected to represent India for the SAF games at Sri Lanka and won the Silver medal. Adam also is a National Champion in athletics. He was the Gold Medalist in All India level in 2002- in Triple Jump (Venue- Kanpur), the Silver Medalist in Long Jump in 2002 – Kanpur. He won the silver medal in South Zone Long jump and Triple jump. Presently Sinclair plays for the Chennai Veerans. Adam Sinclair currently plays club hockey in Germany. Adam told Chennai Plus reporter that his ambition is to get back on the Indian Hockey team, win tournaments and to bring name and fame to India. Special Talent in water colour Painting

S.Potrarasan is at present working as a part time lecturer in Govt.College of Fine Arts, Chennai. He told Chennai Plus that he was awarded the Best student award in U.G and P.G, by the Fine Arts Department. He is held a watercolour painting exhibition titled Aqueous at La Galerie D’Expressions in Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Montieth Road, Egmore, Chennai-8. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Dr.Alphonso Arul Dass, Senior Artist and Former Principal , Government College of Fine Arts in the presence of Mr.S.Aravazhi, Assistant General Manager, Product Development, Parryware Roca Pvt Ltd the guest of honour. S.Potrarasan stated that he had finished his M.F.A at the Govt. College of Fine arts and now he is working as a part time lecturer for the ceramic department in fine arts college ,Chennai. His specialization subject is ceramic and he also attended lot of camps during his college days based on ceramic works and also taught ceramic works for a month in Stella Maris College.

S.Potrarasan has held groups shows based on ceramic and painting works in some Chennai galleries and also in Pondicherry gallery . Some of the excellent watercolour paintings done by S.Potrarasan which are displayed at the show are city streets, Holy steps, Tempels, Corner House etc. This is his first solo show and his passion towards water color painting made him to organize this show and he has have decided to be a water color artist forever. S.Potrarasan completed his UG in B.F.A (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Chennai from 2003 – 2006 and did his P.G in M.F.A (Master in Fine Arts) at the Govt. College of Fine Arts, Chennai during 2007 – 2009. S.Potrarasan is a native of kunnathoor a small village near Arakkonam, He did his schooling at his native place. His father is self employed and his mother is a home maker. He has three younger sisters ,one got married and two were studying. His aim in life is to be a an artist through his life. S. Thiruvengadam M.E. is a talented writer and an experienced Civil Structural Consultant. He told Chennai Plus that he did his ME- Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. B.Sambasivan Sastry is a long time resident of Anna Nagar and he is also the President of the Anna Nagar Humour Club from the year 2004 onwards. B.Sambasivan Sastry aged 84 is a very active and cheerful person. B.Sambasivan in an exclusive interview with Chennai Plus said that he comes from a freedom fighters family. He said that he has also appeared in a Television programme on Podhigai TV Channel and has actively attended and participated in the monthly meetings of all the 9 Humour Clubs in the city.

He has been associated with the Anna Nagar Humour club for over 10 years. B.Sambasivan told Chennai Plus reporter that he settled down in Madras during the year 1944. He said that after his school education he joined M& S.M Railway in the year 1948 as a clerk. Talking about the great history of Southern Railway, B.Sambasivan told Chennai Plus reporter that the Southern Railway of India came into being on 14th April 1951.

He said that Southern Railway was formed after merging the South Indian Railway, the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway and the Mysore state railway. B.Sambasivan Sastry retired as Office Superintendent, Southern Railway in the year 1985. He said that he is an office bearer of the Railway Trade Union and he is well known among the railway employees for his sincere hard work and helping attitude.

B.Sambasivan Sastry said that he took charge as the Anna Nagar Humour Club President from the October 2004 onwards. He said the Anna Nagar Humour Club which started with limited members and activities today has many members and well wishers. The Clubs anniversary celebration attracts an audience of over 300 people, he further added. He said that the Anna Nagar Humour Club Anniversary celebration is to be held in a grand manner in January 2010. B.Sambasivan told Chennai Plus that his aim is to develop the club, increase its members and to encourage ladies and children to take part in its monthly meetings and come and share jokes. He said that every monthly meeting is presided over and attended by a personality who is a prominent humourist.

According to B.Sambasivan Sastry the Anna Nagar Humour Club conducts its monthly meeting on the second Sunday of every month at 4pm at Shri Krishnaswamy Matriculation School, Vaigai Colony, opposite Anna Nagar 7F& 24A West bus Depot. Well-known humourist from the Club shares their jokes and made everybody laugh and be happy. People of all ages including women and children also participate in the meeting. There is no subscription or membership fee for participation.
