Rowing Boat Champion

Sneha Venkatraman is well known for her talent and special skills in boat rowing. She has been rowing for Tamil Nadu for the past many years and has bagged Gold medals is Sub-Junior and open category events in rowing. She has won many Awards , Gold Medals and Trophies for her achievements in Boat Rowing Competitions. Sneha is a M.A. Communication, student of MOP Vaishnav College for Women.

She completed her B.Sc Electronic media in the same college. She told Chennai Plus that she enjoys rock music and likes to read novels.In 2000, she won the Gold position in the First Zone Rowing – Coxed four Sub Juniors (under-16) event at Bangalore. She was the youngest Sculler to represent in the National TARA held in Nov 2000 at Bangalore. In the year 2001 she got Gold position for the Single Scull and Double Scull- 3rd Sub Junior Nations – (Under- 16) held in Chennai and also Coxed Four 3rd Sub Junior Nationals. Sneha won the Double Sculls – 4th Nationals ( under -16) held at Bangalore in July.

Sneha won the Fours- 24th Junior Nationals (under-19) event held at Hyderabad in July 2003. She got the Gold position for the Women fours 25th Junior Nationals (under-19) Roorkee event held in October 2004. Sneha told the Chennai Plus reporter Elwyn that she had also bagged the first place in the Double Scull – 26th National (under-19) events held at Bhopal in Nov 2005. Sneha won the Women Double scull and Women Coxed four – 64th rowing Association of East (ARAE) Chennai in 2006. She also won the All India National University Competition women’s pairs, Kolkata in March 2006

. In the year 2009 she won the Womens Coxless Pairs – All India National University held at Himachal Pradesh in Dec 2009 and secured gold position at the womens coxed four- Amateur Rowing Association of the East (ARAE) Madras in Jan 2010. Her maiden Regatta was in 2000 (June – July) by winning first place in Ladies scull event. Sneha aims to become a Referee for the highest level in any sport and for the Olympic Games. She works with children who are selling in Beach and teaches them to make small creativity work like making greeting cards, Painting, and crafts work, in order to avoid child Labour. She makes Children to be like Self- Help Group. She also saves many children who are wandering in roadside. She stated that Rise n Shine exhibition will be conducted on March 2010. Lalitha completed her Bachelor Of Fine Arts (BFA)- Painting-2004 and her Master Of Fine Arts (MFA)- Painting- 2008 at the Govt, College Of Fine Arts, Egmore. Her area of Specialisation is Art. She is talented in doing Drawing, Painting, Oil painting, Water color, Glass painting, Tile Painting, Abstract, Pot, Sculpture, Photography,junk Art, madhubani, Child Art etc. Her technical Skills are adobe Photoshop, Maya etc. She has done a Project Research work on Puppetry in India for which she received an award by the Government. Lalitha was awarded the Yuva Shakthi, Youth Achiever Award in 2008, the Women Achievement-2007,2008 and Camilin – 2004,2006 for her achievements in arts. To Discover Musical Talent In Chennai

Following the successful series of shows at different Barista locations in Bangalore, Explocity and Barista have tied up to conduct music musicians / bands in Chennai with a focus on discovering new talent in the city and providing with a platform to showcase their talent. Theatre artist, singer and winner of several Karaoke competitions, Mridhula Sekar performed live at on February 5th at Barista, Khader Nawaz Khan Road at 6:30pm. Mridhula Sekar started singing at the age of six and performing at the age of seven. With an aim to perfect her every chord and note, she was under formal training since late 2007. Member of Little Theatre and participant of various AFM shows, Mridhula says “Ive always loved music and consider it as something that I would not be able to live without.” The café located on Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam, hosted the first of the shows. While the format will initially feature musicians, including rock bands, folk singers, acapaella groups, soloists, duo or a small group, it will later be expanded to include poetry readings, stand-up comedy and other performing arts. Winding Up The Charm

The Stella Maris College Play titled ‘Winding Up the Charm’ is an original script based on the timeless works of William Shakespeare. It incorporates various female characters from nine classics including ‘Hamlet’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, and others. When the three Witches from ‘Macbeth’ make a mistake while casting a spell, a miserable Ophelia from ‘Hamlet’ appears out of a magical box kept in their lair. Trying to send Ophelia back to her own world through the box fails, and only serves to make matters even worse, as a furious Beatrice from ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ emerges from the box and takes one of the witches away with her. While the remaining two witches attempt to bring back their missing sister, a bizarre stream of myriad Shakespearian characters appear out of the box, making for conversations that range from the sinister to the innocent, hilarious to the philosophical to offer the heartbroken Ophelia their advice.
The play is directed by Hans Kaushik. It will be staged at Alliance Francaise on the 5th, 6th and 7th of February. At 7 pm on the 5th and at 3 pm and 7 pm on the 6th and the 7th. Yoland Lobow was born and brought up in Tangasseri, Quilon in Kerala, known as God’s own country, a place where all Anglo-Indians lived. She studied in Mount Carmel Convent A.I.School, Tangasseri. After her schooling she had come to Chennai to do her Secretarial Course at the Pudupet Convent School of Commerce.

Yoland Lobow told the Chennai Plus that after completion of her course she had gone back to Tangasseri, since her parents who were turning old and needed someone to be with them.She said that her parents have eight children, but most of them got married and moved out. She worked in Quilon for M/s.C.B.Joseph a Co., Chartered Accountants. In the year 1975 her father passed away and a few years later she came to Chennai city to better her job prospects.

She got a job in M/s.Jabin Road Transport and after a year or so joined Lintas India Ltd an Advertising Company. In the year 1982 she joined work at E.I.D Parry (India) Ltd, where she have been as a Secretary for the past 26 years and she has also received a Long service award - 25 years from the Company. She presently works in the Sugar-Technology Division, designated as Asst.Manager and she has just 2 more years to retire.

She told the Chennai Plus reporter Elwyn that she is proud to be working for the Murugappa group which is a billion dollar company. She does a lot of co-ordination with the factories and interact with suppliers and have gained a Lot of respect from colleagues and others.

She got married in December 1982 to Mr.Richard Lobow has two sons, named Nathanael and Lemuet. The eldest boy is 25 years and the second son is 22 years. They both have graduated from Loyola College, Chennai. “We are proud of them” she adds.

She like’s to maintain a good home and would like to have a crèche when she retires from her job. Her kind request and friendly advise to the people is to be to be honest, hard working and dedicated to their work as this will help them achieve a bright future.
