Luz Corner junction in Mylapore has become a boon for motorists and bane for pedestrians. While one-way roads allow free vehicular movement, they end up being dangerous for pedestrians. After made one-way the congested Luz junction in Mylapore has smooth flow of traffic along Royapettah High Road and Luz Church Road.
Though the one-way gives motorists a longer drive, it has thestretch of Royapettah High Road from Valluvar Statue to Luz Corner free from vehicle congestion and also reduced waiting time at Luz signal for vehicles from Royapettah High Road heading towards Oliver Road and R K Mutt Road. However, local residents and pedestrians are not too happy. The one way arrangement has made it extremely difficult for people to cross the road. The non-stop movement of vehicles makes it almost impossible to cross the road at Luz corner signal junction. The Chennai City Traffic Police (CCTP) needs to implement better regulations at Luz junction to ease congestion and also ensure safe pedestrian crossing.
